In January, Fuze Night brought together people who were keen to learn, meet and share their ideas, to build better together. We heard from General Assembly, GRAB, Dakota Adventures and Tango 5 share inspiring narratives of social change.
In November, Fuze Night brought together people who were keen to learn, meet and share their ideas, to build better together. We heard from Think Big Communications, Pangdemonium, UN Women and Jia Foundation share inspiring stories of their work, and took part in a giving experiment, organised by The Social Co. for Giving Week.
Our Fuze Night August edition featured the folks that are building social movements in Singapore and beyond. Martin Tan, from SMU's Institute of Societal Leadership, talked on what it takes to lead society. Mizah Rahman and Daniel Ong talked on engaging communities to different ways to make them stronger. Lastly, Paul Foster shared his journey's into philanthropy from a personal space.
Paul Foster shared his motivation behind being involved in supporting social causes, including 50 For 50, World Suicide Prevention Day, Animal Lovers' Week and Habitat for Humanity, and Pokka’s Fight Together For Cancer campaign.
Mizah Rahman, of Participate in Design, took the audience through the journey of participatory design - a process that engages a community in the design process, encourages shared ownership and imbibes sustainability principles, illustrated with a case study of a seniors' activity centre.
Daniel Ong of Care Corner Singapore, spoke of the Youth Rangers Programme, a leadership development programme designed with community youths aged 13 - 17 years in mind, and the success stories of past participants.
Martin Tan, of the Institute for Societal Leadership at SMU, spoke about the only constant in the world - change; the different kinds of changes and why it is important. He outlined 3 types of responses to change - which one best resonates with you?
Together with an artist Calvin Tay, Kari Tamura founded the SAMASAMA initiative - which aims to reshape the narrative from sympathy to empathy for migrant workers in Singapore. She shared learnings from the engagement with migrant workers, partner organization HealthServe and the process of creating the exhibition in Westlake Dormitory.

Scott developed Paint the Town Red to raise awareness of HIV amongst youth in Singapore. Statistics indicate that low testing rates are especially prevalent amongst heterosexuals, and youths surveyed stated that they know very little about HIV support services.

Geraldine spoke about the global refugee crisis - with the 65 million people forced to flee their homes, changing certain misconceptions about the refugees' mindsets. Avishek was the knowledge speaker at Fuze Night, and we were able to glean learnings from his analyses and observations of people doing good on social media, including success stories from the "Dress" event, and Emma Watson's #HeforShe campaign, inter alia.
Denise took attendees of Fuze Night through the genesis of the Yellow Ribbon Fund, and the programmes in place to help past prison offenders rekindle bonds with their families and regain their footing in society.
Peter of Peter Draw Studio shared about his personal journey, which led him to become an artist, who encourages others to make a difference through art, in his work with both “little” and “senior” draws.
Alvin, Founder of Givo, explained the intention to reinvent and revolutionize how people connect in the world of charitable giving, by aggregating trending humanitarian news or giving opportunities, to allow individuals to donate to the causes that resonate with them.
Wong Li-Lin shared her personal journey into making a difference and the collaborations that she has had the privilege to work on. She draws on her experience as a Royal Ballet trained dancer and her experience since then to provide guidance on personal wellness and empowerment issues, advising companies and non-profits on how to foster this further.
Deryne Sim shared the story of how Pink Dot SG grew into the movement that defines and celebrates the LGBT community and rights in Singapore. She shared a glimpse of the work they do to help foster understanding and acceptance between members of the LGBT and mainstream society.
Jay Che talks on how Circus in Motion uses circus skills and training to help build life skills and confidence in children and adults alike. He shares the story of his collaborations to achieve this.
Carmen Low shared the story of the Lepark project that use under-utilised space to transform them into vibrant showcases for creativity and artistic expression.
Bjorn Low shares the story of how he's building a movement to grow food within Singapore again, and becoming less reliant on overseas imports.
Tessa Kwek - part of the young, bold and ambitious pioneer team at Children of Cambodia - shared her personal journey to better the state of paediatric healthcare in Cambodia. She shares the impact of their efforts to boost infrastructure, robust programmes, empower people and establish relationships between the Singapore and Cambodian medical communities.
Esther Nai, programs manager for Salesforce.org, shares her thoughts on how focused change and impact is made possible via skills-based volunteering but cautions companies to think carefully about the intended and unintended consequences of corporate volunteering efforts before embarking on them.
Jane Gan, Young Women’s Leadership Connection, talked on how women can empower other women through mentorship. She shares learnings and experiences from the organisation’s flagship engagement program - 100 Wishes. The program helps equip women from disadvantaged backgrounds with vital life skills to improve their lives and that of their children.
