My last blog post for the Be An Idea blog was just at the start of the pandemic in March. Looking back on it, the post feels like it came from a whole different world and in many ways, from one we can't go back to anymore. Like many businesses, Be An Idea had a plan at the start of the year and by May, we simply didn't. We've been working hard to find ways where we can add value for purpose-driven people and organisations, doing the thing that we love - enabling conversations that matter. I'm pleased to say that Be An Idea is working a number of initiatives, the first of which I'm pleased to share with you today.
Today, we're soft launching our Be An Idea Reading Pods, our interpretation of a book club gathering. The platform aims to connect people of purpose with each other and ideas that will help them be more effective in delivering social impact and positive change for their communities. Each quarter takes a look at three select books with interested readers being organised into small pods that connect through a number of facilitated conversations over the same period. Pod members are encouraged to discuss, reflect and explore how the content can be made relevant for themselves, their fellow participants and their communities.
For our Winter season, which kicks off in October, we'll be looking at three books that are relevant for the social impact space. Start with Why by Simon Sinek is one of my personal favourites and delivers a case for companies and organisations to build a narrative that resonates with all stakeholders using WHY as the foundation. Getting to Yes by Roger Fisher and William Ury sets out the framework used for modern-day negotiation and is considered a must-read by the business sector. We explore how this applies to the nonprofit and social impact sector to have more effective conversations. Lastly, we have a new book on Responsive Fundraising by Gabe Cooper and McKenna Bailey that challenges the traditional model of fundraising and proposes an update on how nonprofits go about fundraising. Can this apply to Singapore's nonprofit sector? Join the discussion!
So if you're a voracious reader and love to explore new ideas to make you a better philanthropist, or lead your organisation to success in the community, we invite you to join one of our Reading Pods.
